This ritual is designed to sever energetic ties and release what no longer serves you, particularly in relation to the emotional and spiritual themes of the last Pisces full moon. The new moon solar eclipse is the perfect time for this, as it supports new beginnings and fresh starts.

Understanding the Symbols

  • Black Moon Candle : This candle represents the new moon. It is used to absorb and transmute the negative energy, person, or situation you are releasing. Its darkness symbolizes introspection, endings, and the protective energy needed to let go of old burdens.
  • White Moon Candle : This candle represents the full moon. It symbolizes purity, clarity, and new beginnings. It embodies your renewed spirit, the clean slate you are creating, and the spiritual illumination needed to move forward.
  • Black Salt: This is a powerful tool for banishing and protection. It is used to create a sacred circle that will contain the energy of the ritual and keep unwanted influences away.

What You'll Need:

  • Two Candles: One black full moon candle and one white full moon candle.
  • Oils: A cleansing and releasing oil such as eucalyptus, rosemary, or frankincense. A grounding or protective oil like myrrh or vetiver is also helpful.
  • Herbs:
    • Rosemary: For cleansing and protection.
    • Sage: For purification and clearing stagnant energy.
    • Lavender: For emotional release and calm.
    • Basil: For its purifying properties to clear negativity from your energy field.
  • Black Salt
  • Crystals:
    • Black Tourmaline or Obsidian: For powerful grounding and protection. They absorb and deflect negative energy.
    • Amethyst: For spiritual insight and emotional balance, helping to transmute chaos into clarity.
    • Clear Quartz: To amplify your intention and the energy of the other crystals.
    • Selenite: For cleansing your aura and the space, and for infusing the area with light.
  • A Plate or Fire-Safe Bowl
  • Matches or a Lighter

The Ritual

  1. Preparation Find a quiet, safe, and undisturbed place. Cleanse your space by burning a small amount of sage to clear stagnant energy. Place your plate or fire-safe bowl on a stable surface. Arrange your crystals and herbs around the candles, and then use the black salt to create a protective circle around the plate. This circle will banish any unwanted energies and contain the energy of the ritual.
  2. Anointing and Intention Setting Take the black candle and anoint it with your chosen oil. Start from the top (wick) and rub the oil down to the base. As you do this, focus all of your thoughts and feelings about what you are releasing.Next, take the white candle and anoint it from the base up to the wick. As you do this, focus on your future self. Envision yourself as free, clear, and unburdened.
  3. Tying the Wicks Carefully bring the two candles together so that their wicks are touching. Gently twist the wicks together to create a single, intertwined wick. This symbolic action directly links the old energy to your new beginning.
  4. The Invocation Place the candles back on the plate. Take a deep breath and state your intention out loud. You can use your own words or an invocation like this:"Under the power of this new moon solar eclipse, I release all that no longer serves me. I sever the ties that bind me to the past. As these two flames become one, the past is released and the future is born. My spirit is cleansed. My path is clear. So it is."
  5. The Severing Now, light the intertwined wick. Watch the flame carefully. The moment the flames separate and burn on their own on each candle is the moment the energetic cord is cut.
  6. Closing the Ritual Once the wicks have separated, you can either let the candles burn down completely or safely extinguish them. The act of severing is complete. Thank the elements and the universe for their assistance. You can dispose of the candle remains when you are ready, and be sure to cleanse and recharge your crystals.
